  Opening Keynote: Mr. Juan Sepúlveda

Mr. Juan Sepúlveda is the director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. For the last 20 years, Sepúlveda has been a senior executive, strategist, and advocate in the nonprofit and philanthropic communities, with a focus in community development, capacity building, and transformational management. Sepúlveda has served on numerous U.S. delegations, and national and local boards, such as the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the Center for Policy Alternatives, the Communications Consortium Media Center, the National Civic League, and MDC.

Mr. Sepúlveda will center on the Obama Administration’s Elementary and Secondary Education Act blueprint for reauthorization, with a specific focus on the current state of Latino education, the short- and long-term benefits of innovation and use of technology, and how schools can relate to and partner with the philanthropic and entrepreneurial sectors. Mr. Sepulveda also will touch briefly on the activities of the White House Initiative, including its 2009 Community Conversations series and its national network of best practices and action

This panel calls upon the knowledge of three seasoned professionals from various industries to discuss and exchange valuable ideas. 

Panelist:
  • George Haddad, Aerospace Engineer, NASA
    Mr. Haddad will discuss how NASA embrace innovation. He will present in a brief how NASA infuses technologies to the commercial sector and to academia. He will conclude with some examples of spinoffs that started as NASA’s ideas and ended being commercialized and is being used on daily basis by the consumer.
  • Rafael Andino, Founder, Biofisica, Inc.
    Panelist Mr. Rafael Andino, will speak about how to start a new venture in the high tech/biotechnology space, covering topics such as understanding the market,the keys to identifying unmet needs, how to obtain financing, assembling a successful team, and considering a variety of exit opportunities for investors.

Entrepreneurs have become a special breed of vital change that our economic future depends on. This panel provides an open dialogue about effective creative strategies that seek to further engage individuals within the entrepreneurial culture.

  • Dalia Paratore-Salazar, Director of Multicultural Products and Services for PR Newswire
    Panelist Dalia Paratore-Salazar, will focus on her experiences being a Latina entrepreneur. Ms. Salazar co-founded LatinClips, which was acquired by PR Newswire. She will take us on a journey through her story revealing how this company began, and was built organically, with little to no funding from the ground up.
  • Juan Pablo Giometti, Founder and CEO NHEO, Inc.
    Panelist Juan Pablo Giometti, will discuss Social Entrepreneurship and how the power of business can be used to drive social change. He believes entrepreneurship is the solution to several problems our nation faces such as lack of education, poverty, and unemployment. He will also be introducing NHEO, a fast-growing organization aimed to foster social innovation that is building a supportive community network, while mobilizing global resources to empower the underserved.
