My name is Yvette Solis, I'm the president at Y.S Best Home Builders LLC, and I have been in construction for four years. We provide residential/commercial construction services. We are located in Houston Texas.
How did you get involved in construction?
I became involved in the industry four years ago while working as a general manager at All Day Concrete, ever since then I have discovered my passion. I learned about the industry, and decided I wanted to have my own business one day. Today, I have become the owner of my own construction company founded in March 2018
Why did you choose this profession?
Having my own construction business had always been my dream, I love interacting with clients, building lifetime relationships and assisting with their construction needs. Overlooking projects from start to finish and being a part of every detail is gratifying.
Would you say it’s more difficult to start a career in construction for women than it is for men?
I don't believe it’s more difficult for women to start a career in construction compared to men. With dedication and perseverance, women can accomplish anything we set our minds to, so just make the decision and make it happen.
What are some of the biggest challenges that you think women face in the construction industry?
One of the biggest challenges women face in the construction industry is encountering individuals who underestimate you for being a woman. Although, women have proven to be very successful in the construction industry. I was underestimated, however exceeded expectations.
Do you think the number of women in construction will increase in the future?
Yes, the number of women will definitely increase in the future. Now days we see more and more women involved in the construction industry. I have been able meet other women in construction with great expertise, painters, floors installers, general contractors and this make me super proud, that more women are getting involved in this industry.
What are your recommendations for other women and NHEO Institute members?
My recommendations for other women and NHEO institute members, is to never give up, keep trying and learning of every experience in this industry. This is a great industry for us women and we have a lot to contribute to make a change, keep inspiring other women that haven't decide yet this is the right career for them.
What is something that surprises people about you?
Something that surprises people is that I'm a woman in construction, my age, responsibility and love that I have for my career. I want to make a difference in this industry by always giving an extra to my customers in their construction needs. All the times when I to talk to them in person about their projects they get surprised, because they expect men, but once they start talking to me about their projects and by helping them with their questions and guidance they are more than satisfied and they express their admiration which makes me proud to be a women in construction.
