How did you get involved with NHEO Institute?
I got involved through one of the job post on our University of Houston websites because I thought it would be a great opportunity to learn more about my career field which is in Corporate Communications.
How was your experience working with the organization and its members?
Everyone at NHEO Institute is very helpful in allowing you to discover what your strengths are and helping you utilize and incorporate those strengthens in the career field you have chosen.
NHEO Institute Internship program was very helpful in the real world job hunt.
Do you think NHEO Institute has had a positive impact on the community?
Yes and you can see that impact through the outreach and pledges from major and small corporations alike that join the safety campaign.
What do you think are the biggest challenges for Hispanics in construction?
I think the most common one is the lack of knowledge about the wealth of free information that they have at their disposal regarding safety.
How can these challenges be overcome?
I believe NHEO Institute is vital in addressing such discrepancies by continuing to provide those services free of charge and spreading the word.
What would you share with people who would like to join the organization?
Be ready for the challenges but also don’t be afraid to make suggestions even if you feel they might be silly or irrelevant sometimes those suggestion spark greater ideas and create learning opportunities for you as an individual.
What is something that surprises people about you?
Oh my, that’s a good question! I guess I would have to say perhaps my curiosity. I can have an in-depth conversation about the mechanizations behind the price of a barrel of oil then the next minute I can be laughing about silly cat videos and how cats are very smart creatures!
